Dry grinding vs. wet grinding/sharpening

We use a system (Tormek) that sharpens using a whetstone (a semi-porus sharpening stone) that sits in a bath of water - but why is that better?  Sometimes you see knife sharpeners post pictures of them sharpening a knife on a belt sander - exciting sparks are flying and it looks cool... but it's really not. After many years and a couple of attempts, I finally have the equipment, knowledge and experience needed to sharpen Salon Shears properly! We can now do convex shears. straight bevel scissors, thinners and pretty much whatever you have! I always rework ride lines, and ensure your most prized scissors are well taken care of with bumpers and oiling too.  Convex scissors are $40.00 and straight bevel are $30.00. This includes sharpening, ride line adjustment, bumpers if needed, and oiling.  We will also soon be a distributor for Scissor Mall, offering high quality salon and grooming scissors.

Wallingford and Madrona Farmer's Markets!

We're pleased to announce that we will be adding our service to two additional farmer's markets this summer! The Ballard Farmer's Market has been very well received and we realized that there is a lot of pent-up demand for high-quality, while-you-shop, knife sharpening. Ballard Farmer's Market starting April 7th 2024!

We are pleased to announce that we have been accepted to the Ballard Farmer's market where we will be sharpening knives (same-day) and will start to sell our custom knives too. We are working on making the knives we will be selling mostly Japanese style knives with Wa handles. We'll be at the farmer's market starting on April 7th! Knife Handle Custom Replacement

I'm adding a service - knife handle repair. I'm super excited about this because there is quite a bit of art/craft/skill to replacing handles. I've done a few for customers now and the results have been fabulous. It's a fairly involved process, removing the old handle, cleaning the metal, bonding the new scales to the handle and riveting them, shaping the handle to match the original form of the knife and finally finishing it all.  You get your choice from a few kinds of wood which have all been stabilized to ensure a long life the images below are of...
